Summit Traffic Report - Try to avoid the 8:30 AM & 3:00 PM rush.

Summit Traffic Report

Two things come to mind when I read this. Firstly - Congratulations to Mrs. Janice Therrien, Principal, and her staff for taking such a proactive approach. Secondly, it seems apparent, traffic is an ongoing problem as several issues of their newsletter have the “Traffic Report” column.

Read and enjoy!

For many students and parents the new school year and a new school pose scheduling challenges. We know that the Summit driveway and parking lot can add to some of the new school year consternation, but we would like to offer a few helpful tips to make the morning commute for students and their parents a bit less stressful.

Try to avoid the driveway / parking lot completely.

Why not have your child walk to school all or part of the way? Drop them off a few safe blocks away. If they have a bike, we have numerous bike racks available. Don’t forget to supply a bike lock. Drivers can also use the drop-off areas on Parkway Blvd to avoid becoming ensnarled in the driveway.

Try to avoid the 8:30 AM & 3:00 PM rush.

Arrive 10 – 15 minutes before school starts, and arrange for pick-ups after 3:15. The school Library is staffed and open daily until at least 3:30 PM, as well as numerous after school activities take place. Encourage your child to wait in the Library, or sign up for an after school activity.

Use the drop-off / pick-up area of the driveway.

DO NOT drop-off or pick-up in the curved yellow curbed area in front of the sidewalk in front of the school. Even if you are stopped it is an un-safe place to drop-off/pick-up. Wait until you have driven as far forward as possible along the yellow-striped lane beyond the sidewalk.

PULL AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE even if no one is behind you. The volume of traffic can increase quickly and pulling to the front will make the drop-off easier for everyone. If a car has stopped in the yellow- striped lane, please move safely around the car and drop-off at the end of the lane. There are three lanes of traffic in this area. The extreme left lane is for through traffic, and the centre & right lanes are for stopping and drop-off / pick-ups. In all areas please drive carefully and use caution. Watch for running and darting children. We do remind students to use caution in the parking lot areas, but exuberant children sometimes forget!

The STAFF parking area is NOT to be used to dropoff or pick up students.

When driving in the area, please be aware of our resident neighbours, and heed all traffic signs and directions. The City of Coquitlam By-Law Enforcement officers made frequent visits to the area last year. To avoid getting ticketed, please obey all traffic signage. We appreciate your continued support to keep the Summit driveway and parking lot a safe place for all users.

PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR CELLPHONE WHILE DRIVING THROUGH THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT.

Authors NOTE:

Anmore currently does not have a By-Law Enforcement Officer

The proposed location for Heritage Middle School adjoining Heritage Woods Secondary is much more remote with one limited access road, and the added congestion of two Schools sharing common feeder roads.

I think it’s extremely sad that we are even arguing this point. Are people really that diluted that they think there won’t be traffic problems ? Particularly when the roads that will service the area are not suited to do so. Anyone who questions this is obviously a little slow. Be realistic.

    Resident,

Traffic is a huge issue for me, I sit in it long enough on work days I don’t want to be sitting in traffic right outside my door. :(

This will be nightmare on Hummingbird Drive.
