Letter to Coquitlam and Port Moody Fire Chief - Anmore resident
Posted on | February 27, 2009 |
The following letter has been sent to both the Port Moody and Coquitlam Fire Chief regarding the Proposed Building of Heritage Mountain Middle School in Anmore, B.C.
I am writing today to express my concern regarding Anmore’s current fire coverage and how it relates to the prospective Heritage Woods Middle School development.
I know that currently Anmore is serviced by Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department, who provides first class coverage to our citizens. I know that the Port Moody Fire Department also provides service to our area when necessary. With the current local resources stretched in having a strictly volunteer fire department that services both Anmore and Belcarra, what additional financially responsible resources will be available for the Heritage Woods Middle School and the surrounding neighborhood?
I’ve found a few statistics that state 61% of school structure fires are arson, and that there are often few fatalities. I’ve also found that Fires to the actual structure of educational institutions account for only 43% of fires to these properties. The remaining 57% occur outdoors and generally involve refuse. Schools are well known for vandalism, bomb threats, false alarms, etc. I just wanted to touch base with you regarding the situation with the new school, the proposed access routes to the school, and what your plans are regarding this matter. I wanted to write to you today to find out what planning and development has been done in regard to fire/rescue and this new school?
Currently, the proposed location and access routes to the school site are on narrow residential streets. Has anyone contacted you regarding your opinion about access for fire routes?
I also wanted to double check on your response times. I know that you do a great job and have excellent response times. But I wanted to check with you and find out if this location is going to affect your response time? The location is a bit out of the way, and as previously mentioned does not have great planned access.
Could you please advise as to what future plans are in the works regarding this matter. I would also like to know what impact research has been done in terms of the proposed school, fire/rescue and the Village of Anmore.
I look forward to your response and continuing this dialogue.
Best regards,
.

[...] LETTER TO COQUITLAM AND PORT MOODY FIRE CHIEF - ANMORE RESIDENT ———————————————————————————- [...]

After some time away from my office I returned to find a fax with no sender’s address and an illegible signature at the bottom of the text.
I recognize it as the letter on your blog.
I am unsure as to whether this was intentional or just simply a mistake.
If the author of the letter wishes to furnish my office with their contact information I would be happy to respond to their letter.
