Condoms, broken beer and various items have been found on school grounds

Posted on | February 17, 2009 |

XXXXXXXXX reported that a pipe bomb went off on Sunday night. XXXX would like to see parents do a walk around the school on Monday morning before school starts to ensure the grounds are safe for the children. Condoms, broken beer and various items have been found on school grounds. There was an open discussion around this.

-RCMP community police station might open in the area

- Kids should be told not to pick up anything they see on the school grounds.

- XXXXXXX is good as she shows the children what condoms and needles look like and how they should never pick them up.

- Walk around could be done in conjunction with the preschool.

A show of hands showed that everyone was in favour of parents doing a walk around the school on Monday mornings and coordinating it with the preschool

Wow - yet another irrelevant post that in fact proves that crime already resides in Anmore. This incident occurred in 2007 on the grounds of Anmore Elementary School and was either enacted by people, perhaps youth, who came from outside our community or by people, perhaps youth, who live within our community. In either case, this alarming and wide-ranging trend impacting the lower mainland at large will likely continue with or without the new middle school in Anmore. This is a law enforcement issue that can only be addressed by by much needed law enforcement initiatives.

I am becoming increasingly confused by your tangled web of grievances and how they relate to the issue of access for the proposed new middle school…One of your petitioners stated in a previous comment that access was your express concern “not the school itself”.

    Please clarify…

Precisely ! If indeed this is a law enforcement issue, who will be dealing with these grievances at the new school ?

    Resident,

Perhaps these grievences won’t materialize if the existing law enforcement issues are properly managed. I think the point is that Anmore requires more policing with or without the new school.

Incidentally, the above noted incident took place at Anmore Elementary School which begs the question - is it the opinion of the blogster that authored the post that the very existence of a school invites this sort of potential crime? Or could the remoteness of the site and the fact that we are underpoliced have been factors? Hopefully, we can all agree that the problems noted above did not likely originate with the students (aged 5-11) that attend the school in question.
