Heritage Woods Middle School, Anmore BC - TRAFIC IMPACT STUDY

TRAFFIC IMPACT STUDY – Final Report

At the Public Meeting for the proposed Re-Zoning last Thursday, February 19, 2009, I read a copy of the Final Traffic Impact Study that was published February 18, 2009.

After reading the study I have several questions, but today, I’m only looking for answers on two.

Does the report accurately reflect the true impact for the community, students, residents, and commuters?

Who gave the Consultants Bunt and Associates the number 500 students?

The study was completed based on 500 students with approximately 45 staff for the proposed new Heritage Woods Middle School.

In the report, Bunt looked at both potential entrances to the proposed new Middle School and suggested that the Heritage Mountain entrance currently for Heritage Woods Secondary School in Port Moody needed further review and study.

The actual number of “new students” moving up the hill from the closing of Port Moody Middle as previously stated by Dan Derpak is 800. Not 500, but 800!

I’m not an expert on traffic, but it is my opinion that the study should have taken into consideration the fact that School District 43 (SD43) will be enrolling 300 Middle School students early into Heritage Woods Secondary School.

In 1.1 Background from the final report, It clearly states, “Bunt & Associates has been retained by the Village of Anmore…”

Anmore Mayor Hal Weinberg previously stated that Anmore would choose the traffic consultant, but School District 43 would pay for the study to be completed.

So, who paid for the study? Was it SD43 or the Village of Anmore / taxpayers

I’ll end this post with two questions.

1.) Should the traffic study use the proposed 800 students vs. 500?
2.) Who actually paid for the study?

The location of the school is idiotic.

Google Earth any school and most have many routes one can take to avoid the traffic or to access the school. This one way in and same way out is just painful to think of with that many cars coming around. David St., Forest Park, Aspenwood area is going to be a nightmare! Residents will have to leave their homes 10-15 minutes early to get anywhere on time.

For those who feel this is not a concern will be the first to complain.
