“The proposed Heritage Woods Middle School site is currently in direct violation of the current “green” legislation brought forth by the BC Provincial Government and does not follow the steps of “green zoning” found on the Climate Action Committee’s website”. ~ Speak softly and carry a big stick ~

District #43 and the Village of Anmore have currently gone the opposite direction with this project and have not implemented an environmentally sustainable plan for the school.
The estimated GHG emissions that will be generated by excess travel to and from the proposed school site find that an extra 7.2 km will be traveled by parents and busses on a daily basis resulting in an additional 1 ton of CO2E for every three cars. In terms of busses, the emissions jump to 1.1 tons of additional CO2e per diesel bus. Parents can expect to pay an additional $139 in fuel prices per year driving their children to the proposed out of the way site. ~ Speak softly and carry a big stick ~

This addition of emissions goes directly against the green policies of Environment Canada. The best policy change that could be made here is attempting to place this school in a more convenient, centralized, location in Port Moody. To this day, no alternative has been offered and School District #43 has put in zoning permits without doing any environmental analysis. ~ Speak softly and carry a big stick ~
