NO Sewer - Biggest Loser
NBC’s BIGGEST LOOSER comes to Anmore, BC
No, not the people, but definitely their issue.
NO SEWER HOOK UP FOR ANMORE GREENS!
At the very first Heritage Woods Middle School meeting at the Anmore Village Hall, on January 6th, 2009, Mayor Hal Weinberg make a very big deal about School District 43 taking the lead on the sewer hook up for Anmore Greens. All this much to the delight of the Anmore Greens home owners who were obviously very much in favor and in support of this project going forward and providing a much need sewer connection for their failing system.
See my previous post below Anmore to hook up to Port Moody Sewer - TBD.
However, at the special council meeting at the Village hall on Thursday, March 5, 2009 it was a horse of a different color …or a much better description may be a Chameleon as a metaphor.
Not once did the Mayor address the “sewer issue” during the discussion leading up to the vote to approve the third reading.
Councilor Mario Piamonte cleared things up in his opening statement saying “lets not confuse why we are here, to approve the by-law change for the School. I don’t think we should confuse the issue with the sewer connection” “let’s make a note to follow up later on the sewer”.
Exactly my thoughts from the very first meeting on January 6th, 2009.
See my previous post below Anmore to hook up to Port Moody Sewer - TBD.
However, I could not help but feel bad for the “two” Anmore Green residents that for the first time heard with a big thud the other shoe drop when I heard my neighbors say “we’re not going to get the sewer hook up”.
Now if you are a fan of TV Reality Show Survivor, it was a brilliantly exercised strategy. Offer the prize “the sewer hook up” build support for the School at the public meetings, then at the special meeting when only two representative show up, show your hand, when it’s to late to protest and wait for it … NO sewer.
The Mayor did present a very good idea. To set up a council to council meeting with Port Moody in the future to discuss the Anmore Greens Sewer connection issue along with the user fees. WOW “this is our finest hour” LOL. Mr. Weinberg did say that Port Moody was waiting for a formal request from Anmore, and they have not received it yet.
FYI, if you’re new to this blog. I had spoken to Mayor Joe Trasolini from Port Moody and had received an email from Gaetan Royer, Port Moody City Manager, on Wednesday (the day before this meeting) and was fully briefed on the sewer issue, the fire and police issue, as well as the user fees and relationship issues.

no sewer for you
I’m surprised that the Anmore Greens homeowners went down with a single blow.
Hopefully they are not down and out and will in spite of being played, will get back into the game and claim their prize.
If my math is right, this now makes for the second time Mayor and Council have let then down regarding their failing sewer system.
Good luck, keep up the good fight!

As stated in this article the decided lack of interest on the part of those from the Anmore Greens homeowner group shows us why we get the poor politicians that we do - there is no one holding a fire to their feet to keep them honest and committed to their promises. To that end I have taken the liberty of modifying a very somber poem to fit the occasion.
“In Anmore, SD43 and Council came first for the land, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t concerned about the land;
And then they came for the trees, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t concerned about the trees;
And then they reneged on the promised sewer hookup, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t interested enough to attend the meeting about the third reading for the middle school approval and sewer hookup;
And then . . . they came for my taxes . . . and by that time there was no one left to speak up and it was a done deal.”
With apologies to Pastor Martin Niemoller.
